Bob Stephenson

Bob was born into a very musical family. His father played guitar, and his mother played organ and accordion, they both played in local clubs for years. This was the starting point of Bobs percussive career, having tried trumpet, guitar, accordion he always came back to the ‘skins’. He started practicing seriously at the age of 13, taking lessons from old pal Johnny Jackson. At 15 he joined his first band ‘THE VULKAN’S a 4 piece pop band doing 60’s covers and made his first TV appearance at the age of 16 playing ‘Wipeout’.Bob then went on to play in dance bands, jazz groups, rock, country and local operatics.

Bob then joined the George Rowell dance band organization where he played at all the local hotels and the flagship job the banqueting suite at Newcastle Civic Centre where the group were resident for many years playing for many celebrities such as Mohammed Ali, The Queen, Princess Anne and Jimmy Carter on his historic visit to Tyneside in 1977 and many more. Bob heard that the ‘Washington Welfare Band’ were going on tour to Belgium and so Bob decided to go just for the holiday, he ended up playing drums and marrying the 2nd horn player Jean who now plays for Wansbeck’s Ashington Colliery Band.

Bob joined Ever Ready in July 1991 and have been here ever since. He is still in demand as a guest player and now working at Durham University Music Department . He teaches drums most days on a private tuition basis. He also plays for shows and many varied musical events across the North East..

Jonathan Fenwick

Jonathan first started to learn percussion at school at the age of 14. He was invited down to band practice with Murton Colliery Band through a friend of the family and was encouraged to play either percussion or cornet. He didn't feel suited to playing the cornet so he kept to percussion. Jonathan took to percussion quickly and joined Murton Colliery Band full time shortly afterwards.

After a succesful and enjoyable spell with Murton he then moved to the Broughtons Band a bit further down the road in Easington lane, County Durham and began to focus more on tuned percussion. Jonathan played with Broughtons until November 2006 and during that time also began showing interest in conducting.

His first engagement with the Reg Vardy Band was at the World Brass Band Championships held in Kerkrade, Holland in 2005. After a few years of helping the band out at concerts and contests he finally accepted an invitation to become a full time member of it's percussion section where he has since remained. Jonathan was delighted to be part of the percussion section at the 2007 Northern Area Championships where he enjoyed his first win at the Dolphin Centre. Jonathan has become a regular soloist with the band and his rendition of Helter Skelter on Xylophone has taken audiences by storm.

Away from the band Jonathan is currently studying for a Business Management Degree at Teesside University.
